An Ex-Commuter's Lament

We used to have an office
Desks as far
as we could see
Printers there and copiers
And friendly company
But then along came Covid
No more to work we'd go
Commuting it was history
We learnt the term furlough
When vaccine meant normality
Could come back to the land
For some of us 'twas not the same
We had to understand
That work from home was now the thing
A laptop on a table
Was where we'd sit for hour on hour
Zoom meet if we were able
We miss the friendly banter
The jokes round coffee cup
Surrounded now by household chores
And last night's washing up.
