Sea Wall Birding
Walking out to Dowlais
On sea-defensive wall
Looking for the waders
Awaiting curlews call
Lapwing and spotted redshank
Beneath the heron's gaze
Swallows skimming water
Foretelling summer days
Pippits 'tween the boulders
Wheatears flashing by
A background soaring chorus
As larks ascend to sky
From out the tide-washed grassland
Goldfinches taking wing
As up along the fence wires
The linnets gaily sing
Incoming tide to gather
Shelduck and dunlin flocks
Oyster catchers seeking
Their food among the rocks
On Clevedon’s open shoreline
United in the sun
Residents and migrants
Enjoying Spring as one
