Walton Common Pathway
Onwards leads the sunlit path
In and out the shade
Tree roots here criss-crossing
Where countless feet have made
An earthen route meandering
On Walton Common’s edge
With glimpses of the hamlet
Through gaps in wayside hedge
Soft along horizon
The misty Mendips rise
As morning hours just drift along
Beneath the buzzard skies
Woodpecker sounds distinctive call
From valley far below
And on the sloping hillside
St John’s Wort blooms on show.
