The Kingfisher
A jewel on a fishing post
Sparkling in the light
Darting, dipping, lightning zipping
Diving out of sight
Back upon its wooden perch
A fish trapped tight in beak
Then swallowing the morsel
Before yet more to seek
Turquoise wings so luminous
Its breast warm chestnut brown
Displaying in the sunshine
Kingfisher worth its crown.
