The Heron
Image: Pete Wilkins
Grey ghost in the pale dawn light
Wings spread wide in startled flight
Rising skywards from the lake
Borne aloft this clear daybreak
Heron off to waters seek
Fish to catch with eager beak
Hidden now it stands to dream
On willow bank by quiet stream
