Huddersfield Narrow Canal
Ghost mills that once wove cotton
Disused like mills of wool
The high Pennines dividing
Where industry did rule
The rushing Colne alongside
Canal in stone banks tamed
Past monumental building
For lost Titanic named
Long gone the busy workers
Who once world record made
Fleece to wearer in two hours
A fine suit then displayed.
From Huddersfield to Marsden
Where mournful church bells rang
When Luddites fighting progress
Were taken out to hang
Beyond, the Standedge Tunnel
The longest and most high
And deepest in the country
But closed, so we passed by.
