Roger's Seat - On Coastal Path

On Roger’s seat the world’s at peace

Upon this summer’s day

The coastal path still beckons

But I’m inclined to stay

Across the Channel’s Newport

Before its misty hills

In front the gently turning blades

Of modern power windmills

Dark cormorants skim the muddy waves

A sparrowhawk darts by

And oystercatchers take to wing

To trail their piping cry

And then at last reluctantly

I follow on my way

That winds past rocky beaches

To end at Ladye Bay.
