Farewell to Cetti Bampton
Our Peg, she was a one-off
No shrinking English rose
She knew her mind and spoke it
To keep us on our toes
Beloved of John and scholars
Advice through thick and thin
Of fish and chips an ardent fan
And not averse to gin
An expert in the garden
A connoisseur of crime
As long as kept in fiction
And read with glass of wine
She liked the odd Sudoku
On crosswords she’d depend
To test her shining intellect
Her talents without end
But lest we hear her tell us
“Just shut it - that's a bore”
We’ll say, we all will miss you
And times that went before
Farewell to Cetti Bampton
Goodbye my sparky friend
Now with your John and Jackie
Eternity to spend
