Syd and Gertie's cygnets

Close by both parents' side

Safe within their keeping

In placid waters glide

Two siblings did not make it

But seven did survive

Swimming in the sunlight

Blessed to be alive

A quiet canal their peaceful home

Most dangers far away

One day to raise their own fine broods

And in this idyll stay.
