Walter's Travels

Walter born in Hammersmith

 But destined not to stay

This youngster with his parents

Was set to leave UK

They started in Rhodesia

But then Mugabe came

As others all around them found

Their life was not the same

So then it was South Africa

At end of apartheid

Once Mandela was set free

Their vote was on his side

And finally to Botswana

'Fore Walter's destiny

Brought him back to Britain

And home in Newbury

He's been a soldier, been a cop

He's learnt to taxi drive

And now with wife and daughter

He's glad to be alive.
