Maureen Missed
I've missed all Maureen's birthdays
No poem was begun
To mark each big occasion
Not even twenty-one
Her forty went unnoticed
Then fifty passed me by
Of course, I didn't know her then
So maybe that is why
Those big dates weren't recorded
In sparkling poetry
But that excuse does not hold true
For when she reached sixty
Or seventy, it's sad to say -
Those rhymes were never written
It must have been that at time
With Sally I was smitten
I'm sorry you've been overlooked
I couldn't rate you more
And I will make amends, I swear,
When you attain four score.
