Promenade Sunset

Neon shafts across the sky
Cloud strands shot through with fire
Nature's sunset miracle
The spent day's funeral pyre
Heavens slashed with colours
Crimson, orange, red
From the far horizon
Stretching overhead
The turning Earth extinguishes
The sun from Channel view
One final ray across a sea
Turned luminous in hue
Dark falls upon the promenade
Edged with its garland lights
And strollers pause to wonder
As Clevedon greets the night.
