Peg's 80th Birthday
Our Peg she is a one-off
No shrinking English rose
She knows her mind and speaks it
To keep us on our toes
Beloved of John and scholars
A friend through thick and thin
Of fish and chips an ardent fan
And not averse to gin
An expert in the garden
A connoisseur of crime
As long as it’s in fiction
And read with glass of wine
She likes the odd Sudoku
And crosswords helped by friend
Her intellect’s enormous
Her talents without end
But lest we hear her tell us
“I’ve heard it – what a bore”
We’ll just wish her all the best
On reaching that four score.
