Poppy Pods

Their blooms have had their glory

Lent beauty to the way

Vibrant red the colour

Of petals on display

But when the show is over

These rounded pods are found

Ready to distribute

Their black seeds on the ground

So next year yet more poppies

Will gaily be on show

Beautifying footpaths

Wherever we might go

And now their work completed

Preserved and fully dried

Displayed in an arrangement

They hold their heads with pride.
