Nut So Clever

Oh, pretty paddle boarder
Please spare a thought for me
While you're there on the water
And I'm here up a tree
Through all the lengthy summer days
I've searched the woodland floor
And lofty, bendy branches
To gather winter's store
But though I may be nimble
My fingers are so small
I sometimes go and drop my nuts
And sadly watch them fall
Into the flowing Avon
Where you have come for sport
It would have been so helpful
If you a few had caught
I know I'm not so handsome
As others coloured red
But surely that should never mean
I starve while they're well fed
So next time you come paddling
Please bring along with you
A bag that's full to bursting
With walnuts and cashew.
