Spring's Sweet Promise
Blossom on magnolia trees
Pastel pink and white
After months of greyness
A heart-uplifting sight
Daffodils in gardens
And lining sea view walks
Thrusting up from hidden bulbs
Blooms bright on sturdy stalks
Buds on bare branch bursting
Precursor here of leaves
A sign of Spring's sweet promise
For each one who believes
That Summer will return again
With chill replaced by heat
Longer days and warmer nights
A chance once more to meet
In pubs and parks and gardens
With family and friends
And hope that with the vaccines
This Covid nightmare ends.
