Syc-amore
Unlike the much-loved landmark
That once graced Hadrian's Wall
Here upon the Mendips
A sycamore stands tall
Outlined against the landscape
Bright green abundant leaves
Clothe its spreading branches
Stirred gently by the breeze
Ahead sun-dappled pathways
And meadows flower bright
Grace the hills with colour
Yellow, pink and white
Tinkling streams flow coolly
'Neath bridges cross the way
Sunlit hours and beauty
Tempting one to stay.
