Aircraft To Arena
The Brabazon took flight from here
In 1949
The biggest aircraft in the world
Which Filton did design
The longest runway needed
A hangar of such size
Allowing giant's construction
'Fore taking to the skies
So vast this mammoth building
Were dwarfed the men inside
'Twas said it even Houses
Of Parliament could hide
Three huge bays of arching steel
Each 65 feet tall
A mighty plate glass window
Let daylight through rear wall
But though the plane completed
With maiden flight success
Its days were sadly numbered
It never reached U.S.
Yet in the years that followed
A new shape took its place
Supersonic Concorde
Which sliced through air with grace
And now this temple changes
From aerospace to sound
Within a new arena
Sweet music will be found
The bands which take the stage here
And fans who come to see
Should know they're in the presence
Of Bristol history.
