Steart Cygnets
Half a dozen cygnets
With parents dabbling down
In hidden Steart Marsh channel
With bird song all around
Reed warblers in the rushes
Swallows in the sky
Quantocks in the distance
As summer hours pass by
From the hides the birders watch
The heron and shelduck
Hoping for a rarity
Wishing for good luck
Gone for now the avocets
One day to return
But still the time to scan the lakes
More knowledge here to learn.
