Twice Bittern
It was a hide to nothing
That day in Avalon
I heard the bitterns booming
But saw, it's sad, not one
And yet my fellow watchers
Spied more than two take flight
While I was looking elsewhere
I heard their sheer delight
They also saw an otter
Yet I saw hide nor hair
They pointed where they'd seen it
Of course, it wasn't there
I did see some marsh harriers
Wheel across the sky
Lovely, but I was sadly
Twice bittern, yet twice shy.
