Adlestrop
In the peaceful Cotswolds
A station out of time
Adlestrop on sign board
Immortalised in rhyme
A poet in the carriage
When once a train stopped here
Moved to write his thoughts down
For others folk to hear
I understand his motive
I often do as much
To take a special moment
And capture with a touch
But whene'er I read his words
I'm usually forced to say
He could've done it better
Brought far more into play
The rhymes I find are plodding
Poetic chance here missed
If given the same subject
I'd make a better fist
But Edward Thomas lives on
My name will likely fade
And no one soon will ever know
Near Adlestrop I stayed.
