Quiet Canal
Quiet canal in August
Swan family gliding by
Signets following parents
Beneath a sun-blessed sky
Kingfisher darting downstream
A jewel flashing bright
Leaving just a fleeting glimpse
'Fore zipping out of sight
Joggers and dog walkers
Paddle boarders and canoes
Anglers' eyes fixed on their lines
Lest a catch they lose
Stone bridges framing vistas
Of lilies and tall reeds
Lining cool clear waters
As on the towpath leads
Views to distant Devon hills
'Cross fields with harvest past
Strolling through the summer hours
With memories that will last.
